Director: Tony Estrada

SHORTS PROGRAM A-28

BULLPEN is a comedy web series about the trials and tribulations of a season in the bullpen of Major League baseball's newest franchise, the Las Vegas Vegans. The relief pitchers battle for contracts, respect, and doing whatever it takes to stay in the “show”. Their world is so insulated that no topic is off limits. There is no one to call them out when they lean into inappropriate subjects – whether sex, religion, or favorite frozen dinners.

The bullpen can be a lonely world with each player’s insecurities on full display as they pass the time hoping to get into the game. With far too much time on their hands and precious little to do, the players form an unlikely bond as they learn that Krause, their tyrannical general manager, views them as nothing more than spare parts.

Breaking the Fourth Wall

9:45 PM

Director: Teresa Lo

Years ago, Joe Manente was a failed musician who owned an unlicensed moving truck business. One day, he decided to sell his trucks and use his office space as a place to host open mic comedy. The name of his studio--The Fourth Wall.

Through trial and error, he created an online, hourly sign-up system. Using a Slotted webpage, comics could sign up in advance, then they'd show up to the Fourth Wall and pay $5 to perform five minutes. Comics were also required to show up on time and stay for the entire mic, a concept that seems simple but yet had never been done before.

This new way of comedy revolutionized the way Los Angeles comedians practiced standup and opened the doors for more women, minorities, LGBTQ and newbies to perform.
